“Well lawdy, lawdy, lawdy miss clawdy” I have not updated this blog much this year, demerits on me for being negligent! Anyway, this years ElvisFest 15, my 4th ‘fest in Lake George, NY was the best one yet! This years ElvisFest blog title is a lyric from the song Rubberneckin’, it has been a running joke between my Mom and I ever since we heard someone on SiriusXM ElvisRadio declare that it was the “best Elvis song ever” we do not agree and laugh at their taste in song but not the artist.
When in Philli, you must run up the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum and pose like Rocky! If you don’t do it and photograph the moment, how will anyone else know you were there?! Continue reading for more fun things from my Birthday trip to Philli..
Since I was a teenager I have been fascinated by photography of the abandoned and paranormal stories and television shows. The place I had most wanted to visit was the first penitentiary in the world, the historical landmark, Eastern State Penitentiary! So naturally I decided to plan a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a few friends to see it for my 29th birthday, because that’s a very fun, normal thing to do! ;p For us that majestic, stone castle structure was a sight for sore eyes after a long walk with snow hitting us in the face on that February day. But for the hundreds of inmates that were brought there from 1829-1971 it was shackles and for some, the last place they’d ever go.
This year we certainly didn’t get a white Christmas! It was unseasonably warm here in New York and the windows were wide open on Christmas Eve! Christmas was spent surrounded by family, pets, questions about what you are doing with your life, great food and cocktails…of course! ;p
This 2015 marked my 4th Santacon! For those that don’t know, Santacon is a celebratory day in New York, New York where thousands of young people don Santa suits, donate to charity and spread merriment while traveling along an epic bar crawl at Santacon approved locations! The media and scrooges like to put down the event and call out the couple of bad Santas in the mix but I have always had nothing but a great experience and it always manages to get me in the Christmas spirit. Last year my Mom sewed together this blue velvet Santa dress to which I put on letters spelling out “Blue Christmas” in honor of my favorite Elvis Christmas song of course! I couldn’t get enough of it last year, so I donned it again this year. Click more to see more photos from this years Santacon!
One of the most common questions I get asked as a vintage seller is “How do you not keep all the stuff?” And while I hoard many vintage clothes you know in the event I have a stylish boyfriend or kiddos some day, not everything I sell is my style, my size and I got bills to pay, this is a business…GOSH! ;p But occasionally I’ll be in the middle of photographing a dress and be thinking about how awesome I think it would look on me. This 1950s style 1990s dress did just that to me. I went through all the photos and was about to start editing and listing and said I need to try it on so then I claimed it as my own and we lived happily ever after ❤️
Most Halloweens I have an idea of what I want to dress up as many months ahead of time. This year I wasn’t feeling as inspired that was until I re-watched the movie Gentleman Prefer Blondes this summer with new eyes. Lorelai played by Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy played by Jane Russell have such a supportive and loving friendship in the film that instantly reminded me of the relationship my girlfriend Irene and I have. The musical numbers are outstanding and the costumes by William Travilla are stunning! He may be most noted for designing the iconic white halter dress Monroe wears over a subway grate in The Seven Year Itch but a close second has to be the hot pink bow evening gown Marilyn dons in the number “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend.” I literally had “Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend” playing in my head for weeks whenever I would walk through a crowd in public..which would then cause me to bop around a little more in my heels and gave me an extra dose of confidence. I have been a Marilyn Monroe fan for what seems like forever, as a teenager I read several books on the actress including her own autobiography. As a young child I somehow knew the song “Happy Birthday Mr President” which I would sing around the house nowadays I just sing it to friends on their birthdays! Ever since I cut my hair a year ago and discovered hot rollers, I’ve been called Marilyn a lot. So I decided to embrace my hair and show my love for the film and this Halloween I decided to go really go for it and be -her-, Marilyn Monroe as Lorelai in Gentleman Prefer Blondes. ❤️
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man who lives
And gives expensive jewels…“
Brimfield is like the holy land for those that buy and sell antiques with thousands of dealers offering up their antique wares. This September 2015 marked my first trip to Massachusetts for the sale. I had been wanting to go for years and since I was finally done with college classes, I was actually able to attend this year! I read articles online to prepare for the trip which was very helpful mostly with the variable weather. My first day at Brimfield it was blazing hot, I was so glad I did my due diligence and came armed with water bottles. I brought rainboots but my cat rain hat and ponchos were needed on the last day when it was 20 degrees colder and rained all day. Another thing I had read was to come armed with cash, I did find that cash was certainly king as few sellers accepted credit cards. Overall it was a fun couple days in September with a much needed vacation spent at a beautiful hotel at night and scoping out vintage during the day! At one point I had to stop looking at vintage jewelry because I had already bought several pairs of my current obsession, clip ons. I also walked away with bags of vintage clothing so I would say it was a very fruitful trip!
My family has always teased me for my wardrobe and appearance while traveling, my response back was always “you never know who you’ll meet!” I don’t understand why its such a weird thing, I wear dresses all the time why would I change who I am to sit in a car. I’ve done the jeans and t-shirt while traveling thing and believe me its not as comfortable to curl up for a nap in the backseat with womens denim jeans cutting off circulation haha.
Whenever we are traveling home from upstate New York back to Long Island we always make it a habit to stop at this particular diner for lunch and there is a woman there that remembers me for my dresses despite being many miles from home. As usual I had a dress on last month while passin’ through…

Summer may kick off for most on Memorial Day but for me the past couple years it has been at the end of May during ElvisFest in Lake George, NY. This year was certainly no different than years past and my summer got kicked off in a dream filled land of Elvis’, sunshine and fun! Unlike years past, this was the first time I wasn’t in college and could get upstate earlier and see more of the festival, tribute artist contests, the nightly professional performances and after parties 😀
